Sources are reporting that Connectix is hard at work at a
worthy successor to its much-lauded RAM Doubler utility. Speed Doubler, as it is thought to be called, will offer enhancements in four areas: Finder copying, 68040 emulation on Power Macintoshes, disk caches and application-specific enhancements (such as the Word 6.0’s Word Count). The utility will allegedly debut at Macworld Tokyo in late February.
 
Pioneer Electronics Corporation has reached an agreement with Apple to license the MacOS for use in a new line of personal computers. The Japanese company is expected to exhibit prototypes of the Mac-compatible computers at Japan’s Macworld Expo as MacSense is going to press. Pioneer’s Mac clone systems will include either a 66MHz PowerPC 601 or 33MHz 68040 processor, high-quality 3D speakers, a quadruple speed CD-ROM and will include AV functionality.
  
Symantec C++ 8.0 is now PowerPC native after joint
development between Symantec and Apple. The program
has an all new graphical, scriptable Project Manager; a new Power Macintosh version of Symantec's popular Visual Architect; and a powerful Editor, Browser and Debugger. Symantec claims build-speed increases of three to four times faster than non-native versions. Symantec C++ 8.0 for Power Macintosh will be available in March for a suggested retail price of $499 (US.).
